The Feast of Figaro - Let's create an opera together

04.09.2023.
Music and stage workshops (4+ years)

Through interactive workshops The Pier of Figaro, the national champion of the Opera, introduces elementary school students to the world of the opera The Pier of Figaro. Through an interesting anecdotal and narrative approach, the process of creating an opera, the roles of characters, actors, scenery, costumes and other related elements is explained. Also, by including a character from the work itself who will animate the participants, children are provided with a special experiential-educational moment that will bring them closer to the story itself and the point of Figaro's pyre.

Three genius authors participated in the creation of Figaro's pyre: Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, Emanuele Conegliano known as Lorenzo da Ponte and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Beaumarchais's witty comedy Crazy Day or Feast of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro ossia la folle giornata) is the main force in the satirical blade directed against the political and social order of France at that time. Beaumarchais' work served as the basis for Da Ponte's libretto and Mozart's opera, but the Italian librettist and the Austrian composer interpreted this French comedy more subtly. Basically depriving it of the determinants of time and space, they focused their interest on the feelings that drive the characters in it, which is primarily love, and that love in all its forms, with all its manifestations. In fact, everyone in Figaro's party loves someone, but everyone does it in their own way. The Feast of Figaro is an opera that talks about love in all its forms and what it brings with it - hatred, envy, intrigue (...). In the opera, four loving couples, four different generations are intertwined, so the attitude towards love itself is visibly different. We can associate these stages of love and generations with four seasons: spring: the young page Cherubino and the gardener's daughter Barbarina, a couple who are at the very beginning, love stories blossom. Then summer: Figaro and Susanna, a young couple who have yet to get married and embark on a "real" love life together. Autumn follows, and with it the almost withered love of Count Almaviva and his wife, Countess Rosina, and at the very end of winter, the long-ago cooled relationship between the divorced Bartolo and Marcellina.
