Chui is a Croatian instrumental quartet that fosters a slightly different approach to jazz. The fusion of contemporary club dance music in combination with jazz, progressive music, electronica and rock'n'roll with an uncompromising approach already with the first album ("Chui" Dancing Bear 2012) ensured the Chuievci a cult status on the Croatian music scene. At the end of 2013, Dancing Bear released their second album, "The Second Arrival", which, like the first album, received only praise from music critics and audiences. In 2015, however, Chui released his third album, "Third Sun From The Stone", which, in addition to receiving only excellent reviews, was declared the domestic album of the year on almost all charts, which has not been achieved by any instrumental band in Croatia. That year, they also composed music for the theater play Hairy Hairy Mouth by the Lithuanian Psilicone Theater, which premiered live in Lithuania at the Kaunas biennial, and later in Berlin at the Klang der digne festival in the Chaubude theater. In 2017, the Chuievs recorded the album "Chui ovu mžižu" with the Jazz Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television, with which they sold out several concerts, including the one at the Veliki pogon Tvornica kulture, and they also recorded a song with the Croatian music giant Josip Lisac, which has already been covered by many media declared song of the year. The album "Chui this music" brought two Porins to the Chuie people, one for the best jazz album and the other for the best jazz performance. The following year, they receive the Rock & Off music award for best jazz and best concert performer. In 2019, they released their first album as a quartet with a new rhythm section, Konrad Lovrenčić on bass guitar and Ivan Levačić on drums. The album "Iz Kapetanonov Dnevnik" won two Porins again and many music journalists declared it the domestic album of the year, and Chui was again declared the best Jazz & Off group at the Rock & Off music award. At the end of 2019, commissioned by the Goethe Institute and the Croatian Film Association, they composed the music for the silent documentary film Berlin Symphony of the City (1927) directed by Valter Ruttman, which premiered alongside the film screening in the Tuškanac cinema at the opening of the Berlinale Special Festival in Zagreb, then also at the Days of Croatian Film , Dop festival in Varaždin, and this year, on the occasion of the band's tenth birthday, they performed Berlin on the Summer Stage of the Tuškanac cinema in Osijek cultural summer and at the Pula film festival. In 2020, for the third time in a row, they won the Rock & Off press award for the best Jazz & Off performer. In 2022, they will release a new studio album "Zagreb – Berlin", conceived conceptually as a double album, on one vinyl the compositions created during the pandemic, and on the other the compositions composed by Chui for the Berlin Symphony of the metropolis. The cover for the album was painted by our world's most recognized and famous master of comics and illustrations, Igor Kordej. The album was declared the domestic album of the year by music journalists and the Rock & Off award.
