City Mandolin Society Sanctus DOMNIO
Vlado Sunko, conductor
James Ferrari, piano accompaniment
The evening in the Ivo Tijardović Great Hall on April 14th brings a program that pulsates in the very code of Split's identity. Two emblematic ensembles of our city – the Brodosplit City Choir and the Sanctus Domnio Mandolin Orchestra – present scores that have shaped Split's and Europe's musical history.
The program is balanced between intimate Mediterranean miniatures and grandiose operatic choruses. From Tijardović's unmissable Aquarelle and Floramy, in the space named after the maestro, through Hatze's lyricism, to the monumental choruses of Verdi, Wagner and Orff. This concert offers an insight into the coexistence of two ensembles that the Split audience knows and loves well.
The Brodosplit City Choir is one of the most awarded male choirs in Europe. Founded in 1972, the choir, under the long-standing direction of maestro Vlado Sunko, has become an institution that preserves the tradition of Dalmatian script, but with superb vocal discipline that enables them to perform the world's most demanding oratorios and operas.
GMD Sanctus Domnio has been maintaining the standards of mandolin music at the highest level for decades, promoting the instrument beyond mere folkloric accompaniment. Their repertoire encompasses everything from baroque to contemporary compositions, and their collaboration with Brodosplit guarantees an authentic, rich and imbued sound of the Mediterranean.
