Do you sometimes wonder why you like to hear familiar songs and listen to them on repeat, in modern terms? And listen to unfamiliar ones with more or less interest – until (and if) they become recognizable to the ear? It's not unusual, just in line with the spirit of the times.
It is impossible to draw a line and say exactly when it happened – probably gradually – but the so-called popular compositions, those that will be more often found in the concert or opera repertoire, did happen.
Long before this phenomenon, for example, in the time of Monteverdi, Bach, Haydn, Mozart... the audience at every gathering, whether it was a salon performance, Sunday mass, concert or opera, expected - and received - always new compositions. Thanks to this - for our time - phenomenon, today we can be grateful for the numerous opuses of respected composers.
Tonight's concert sublimates both favorite and new compositions, so in the first part you will hear one of WA Mozart's most famous works composed for the instrument close to his heart - the clarinet - and a string quartet. The clarinet quintet is one of his most appreciated works.
Next comes Tim Knight's composition for clarinet and string quartet called Nordic Sketches. Meditative-pastoral composition inspired by a trip to Iceland, not yet performed in our area.
Airborne for clarinet and string quartet by Ivan Božičević will round off tonight's concert with its imaginative, playful and singable expression.
This chamber ensemble is composed mainly of musicians who work as professors at the Academy of Arts in Split, as well as former students of the academy, which is where the idea for this project came from. Composer Ivan Božičević is also part of this story, the story of the “Split circle”, as a professor at UMAS.
