Fado originated in the early 1800s in Lisbon as a sung poetic genre from the social and economic margins of the city. The revolution of 1974 was followed by a revolt against fado due to the genre's alleged association with the dictatorship, which resulted in the closure of many fado houses. The success of fado on the international world music market in recent decades, the newly developed fado scene in Lisbon and the increased attention of the international media towards fado have once again shaped the political significance of this genre, so fado has turned from a genre associated with deviation and protest into a national genre and a useful cultural resource. In 2011, UNESCO declared fado an intangible cultural heritage.

Fado is a musical genre that brings together stories and feelings related to history and places, reflecting personal experiences related to Lisbon, Portugal and its place in the world. Through themes of loss, nostalgia and melancholy, the genre expresses a longing for something past or unattainable, but also the inability to control destiny. Although fado often explores themes of loss and nostalgia, it also carries with it acceptance of life experiences and resilience, highlighting the way emotions face challenges and find balance.

LINA_ is a Portuguese singer who stands out for her unique approach to fado. While respecting its roots, LINA_ interprets it in a new way – an irreplaceable voice with an expressive personality takes us into the contemporary context of fado while maintaining its authenticity. After receiving international critical acclaim for her work with Catalan producer Raül Refree, winning numerous European awards and doing an international tour with more than 70 concerts, LINA_ presents her new and ambitious solo album with this concert. For this new project, LINA_ explored the poetry of Luís Vaz de Camões (1524 or 1525 – 1580), the greatest Portuguese poet. His mastery of verse has been compared to that of Shakespeare, Milton, Vondel, Homer, Virgil and Dante. He wrote numerous lyrical and dramatic works, but is best known for his epic “Os Lusíadas” (“The Lusíadas”). His poetry collection, "Parnassus Luís de Camões", was lost during his lifetime. The influence of his "Lusíada" is so profound that the Portuguese language is sometimes called "the language of Camões".

LINA_ said of the latest release, a kind of celebration of the most important Portuguese poet: "I became curious, I wanted to know more beyond 'Os Lusíadas' or 'Sonnets' and discovered that Camões' themes – change, childhood, love, the end of love or the description of nature – could be adapted to fado and its meters."

In working on this album, LINA_ collaborates with British producer and musician Justin Adams, who has always been committed to the idea of merging the traditional and the contemporary in his numerous collaborations with famous musicians. Growing up in Egypt, he promoted the fusion of blues and the traditional dynamics of Maghreb music. It is not surprising, therefore, that the voice and chords of the Portuguese guitar on this album flirt with African sounds, as in the songs “Quando veria vos” (“When I saw you”) or “In labirinto” (“In the labyrinth”), with a subtle presence of percussion, and in the relaxed “Desencontro” (“Discord”), while in “O que temo eo que desejo” (“What I fear and what I want”), a duet with Asturian folk agitator Rodrigo Cuevas, a striking Latin rhythm meets fado chords.

In the songs “Desamor” (“Without Love”) or “Senhora minha” (“My Lady”), a voice emerges from the piano and guitar, conveying feelings of pain. In “Amor é um fogo que se arde sem se ver” (“Love is a fire that burns without being seen”), Lina’s voice is suspended in an atmosphere almost like silence, with only a few guitar chords and a digital fog serving as support, while in “Pois meus olhos não cansam de chorar” (“My eyes never tire of crying”), more concrete sounds are integrated between the piano sounds and Camões’ poetry, which is revealed in scenes of melancholy but also celebration.

The album features a large number of collaborations, such as the one with Portuguese singer Amélia Muge, who wrote the music and lyrics for the song "Senhora minha" and played a key role in adapting the lyrics.
Although LINA_ has transcended traditional fado and brought it to some new dimensions, she remains faithful to her sources and is a regular performer at the Fado Club in Lisbon: "It's training for the voice and emotions."
