Picture book promotion Ivo and Jakov – from the Split Ghetto to the world stage by Magdalena Mrčela is the public presentation of an edition that tells the story of the life and work of Ivo Tijardović and Jakov Gotovac, two prominent composers whose artistic work has marked the Croatian and European music scene.
The picture book was published by the Croatian House Split as a partner of the City of Split in the Year of Ivo Tijardović and Jakov Gotovac 2025/2026, which marks the 130th anniversary of their birth. The text is by Magdalena Mrčela, the illustrations by Branka Hollingsworth Nara, and the book, in an accessible and visually attractive way, introduces the youngest to the cultural heritage of Split and the significance of two artists who reached the world stage from the Split environment.
The picture book also inspired the creation of the play of the same name, directed by Goran Golovko, staged at the City Puppet Theatre, giving the project an additional artistic dimension and a wider reach among children and families.
The event is intended for children, parents, educational staff, and everyone interested in the cultural history of Split and the nurturing of musical heritage through contemporary and accessible formats.
The picture book is published by the Croatian Center Split, and it is the second picture book published by the institution.
