Mariza belongs to a small circle of artists who have managed to affirm fado as a globally relevant musical expression, while preserving its fundamental emotional and poetic core. Her interpretation stems from a deep relationship with the classical fado tradition, but is also marked by openness to contemporary arrangement solutions and repertoire breakthroughs. From the album Fado em Mim She has also developed a distinctive style in which vocal expressiveness is combined with an exceptional sensitivity to text, ornamentation and the dramaturgy of performance. An important aspect of her work is also cultural representation, since her career has significantly contributed to the international visibility of Portuguese musical heritage after Amália Rodrigues. In this sense, Mariza acts both as a guardian of tradition and as an artist who thinks about fado as a living, changing and universally communicative idiom.
