The program is based on ethno-crossover compositions inspired by folk songs and dances of the Dubrovnik region, as well as tango and Latin American repertoire. In the ensemble's previous projects, this repertoire direction also included the music of Astor Piazzolla and Alberto Ginastera.
The Brass & Percussion Septet of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra was formed in 2020, during a period when, due to epidemiological restrictions, the DSO musicians organized themselves into smaller chamber ensembles in order to continue their concert activities. The original Horn & Percussion Quintet evolved into a septet, which was joined by trumpeter Ivan Kušelj and percussionist Alan Polzer, professors at the Luka Sorkočević School of Arts in Dubrovnik.
The expansion of the ensemble's repertoire has also expanded - from classical and romanticism to film music, jazz, funk and rock. An important part of its artistic identity are the arrangements of Damir Butigan, as well as an ethno-crossover project based on folk songs and dances of the Dubrovnik region. In 2021, the ensemble was joined as a guest soloist by cellist Vid Veljak in a project dedicated to tango and Latin American music with works by Piazzolla and Ginastera.
Among the ensemble's most notable performances are concerts as part of the DSO program, the Dubrovnik in Late Summer festival, the Epidaurus Festival and the Cavtat Summer, as well as guest appearances at the Veliko Gorica Brass Festival, the Blato Summer and the Osijek Summer of Culture.
