Storm of Love
(reduced version of the play Luxury)
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet – flamenco dance ensemble
Artistic direction and choreography: David Gutiérrez
Storm of Love is a dance performance by the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet that combines contemporary and traditional flamenco into a powerful theatrical whole, accompanied by live music. Dancers and musicians – flamenco singers, guitarists and a rhythmic accompaniment – together shape the dramaturgy of the evening, in which movement and sound are constantly intertwined. In the reduced format of the performance Luxurîa, choreographer David Gutiérrez explores themes of passion, power and emotion through a physically intense, rhythmically precise and visually suggestive flamenco expression, adapted to the space Tijardović and direct contact with the audience.
The work is signed by David Gutiérrez, a dancer and choreographer, who in this project combines traditional flamenco with elements of contemporary dance expression. Storm of Love created as a reduced format of the play Luxury and represents his third original project, after successful productions New Flamenco Time i Flamenco Reborn. The choreographic manuscript is characterized by pronounced dynamism, strong emotionality and a clear dramaturgical arc that leads the audience through an intense stage experience.
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet is one of the most prominent flamenco dance ensembles on the international scene. Founded in 2017 in Barcelona, the ensemble is recognized as an important representative of the Catalan flamenco tradition and its contemporary development. Over the past seven seasons, they have performed in more than forty countries around the world, on major theater stages and festivals, in front of more than half a million spectators.
The ensemble cultivates a special artistic concept that preserves the fundamental elements of traditional flamenco, but at the same time transforms them through the influences of contemporary dance, jazz and ballet. Their stage language is modern, powerful and extremely physical, with an emphasis on the exploration of movement, rhythm and musical structure. The performances alternate between the strong, raw vocals of traditional cante and more subtle, melodic musical layers.
