De España con Amor is a concert program inspired by the Spanish musical temperament, in which art song, opera, zarzuela and popular Mediterranean vocal tradition meet.
The program opens with the Canciones clásicas españolas cycle by Fernando J. Obradors, a collection of songs in which refined vocal lyricism merges with the characteristic rhythms and colors of Spanish music. Obradors' El Vito is followed by three famous excerpts from Bizet's Carmen – Habanera, Seguidilla and "Les tringles des sistres tintaient" – which bring the seductiveness, rhythmic liveliness and dramatic energy of one of the most famous operatic characters.
The second part of the program broadens the musical horizons towards Verdi and Spanish zarzuela with works by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri, Rupert Chapí, Pablo Luna and José María Giménez. The concert concludes with the Mediterranean breadth of Tosti's Marechiara and two extremely popular concert numbers – Lecuona's Malagueña and Lara's Granada.
De España con Amor thus shapes an evening of strong emotions, temperament and sumptuous vocal expression, connecting Spanish song, opera and zarzuela in a unique concert arc.
